Abandon Ship.

Costa Rica is not complete without some Zipline adventures, so we headed to the canopy for some highspeed fun. It was a blast! After some debate over whether to try and sell the car in San Jose or in Panama City, we ended up deciding on the later and started making our way towards Osa Peninsula in the south. It is said to be one of the lesser travelled parts of Costa Rica, so I wanted to find out. We drove until the fireflies signaled our arrival into Puerto Jimenez. The next morning we broke fast and set out for Carate, the last town on the end of the peninsula. After Crossing 12 rivers and 4X4 worthy mud, the saturn delivered us to our destination. A beautiful black sand beach with freshly hatched turtle nest served as our backdrop as we cooked up some tasty camp food. While we were hanging out at the beach it started to rain pretty hard, but we kept on cooking, not stopping for the daily shower. After devouring our camp cuisine and a fresh cup of joe from the snack bar at Carate, we decided to headback, thinking that the river were prolly starting to rise. And we were right. The first two rivers weren't bad but the third was a little iffy. At the fourth river we decided to stop and walk the river to see what the best route, after some inspection we decided we better wait the rain out. Well after 45 mins I decided to bring out the surfboard and mess around in the river. After stringing out a rope I was pioneering the technique of jungle surfing. A mesh of surfing and wakeboarding. It was entertaining and it passed the time until the rain stopped. The rain only ceased for about an hour and then it started up again, at this point my mom and I had mapped the entire river bed for crossing possibilities and decided that it was now or never. The river was lower, but it was still cruising pretty fast, I had crossed all of the previous river at a crawling speed but this one's speed made me nervous so I wanted to go a little faster to just get to the other side. Not such a good idea. We made it about half way before the car stopped. The water was the highest it had ever been on the car and it held dry until water started pouring out of the speakers. Haha that was a sight. So after some pushing and other attemps to get the car out of the river it died. At this point we decided to transfer some of the more important items out of the car on the dry bank. Some guys that lived right by the river helped us and informed us that they were going to go get the boofellO. What?! haha so I asked "como un animale? Ahaha Yes! I'm gonna get towed out by a fricken buffalo, how cool is that? Well before the could get buffalo hitched up a toyota came by and towed us out of the river. There was some slight confusion as to why I had tried to cross the river. One of the guys helping us in particular thought I was on drugs and couldn't understand why I tried to drive across the river. I guess my attitude towards the situation wasn't working for him or something. Laughing and smiling about having my car stuck in the river was not o.k. i guess. After we towed it by their house, we thanked everyone for helping and after a quick assessment decided it would be best to leave the car there and catch the bus back to Puerto Jimenez. It was cold, wet and very long ride in the back of transport type truck back to the hotel. Overall it was a awesome day.
